Maquoketa Caves (Brief Visit) September 5, 2016 (Also I'm sorry!)

A Message to Followers:  I cannot believe that it has been over 6 months since I have posted on this blog and please believe me that it has not been my intention.  In terms of technology, this has really not been my year.  My computer broke in March and I have yet to have it replaced.  I have not gotten out to hike nearly as much as I would have liked; however I do have a lot of great places that I've been to share with you all.  For now my commitment will be to post weekly; if I have more time/access I will try and catch up the best that I am able!!  Thank you guys for continuing to read the blog!

On labor day this year I had the opportunity to go on a brief hike in the Maquoketa Caves State Park located outside of Maquoketa, IA.  The hike that I went on was relatively brief due to the nature of my "working" visit.  I started near the restrooms and went through the dance hall cave up and around the main trail that links the caves.  We only were able to explore 2 caves at this time; Dance Hall and Widemouth.  There were a lot of geographical formations present which you will be able to see in some of the photographs that follow.  Due to the public technology that I'm using I will limit and link all the photographs at the end of this blog instead of incorporating them into the text as I usually do.  I really do not have that much to say about this park; I don't know if very well and my visit was limited to only about 45 minuets.  However; I can say that it is defiantly somewhere that I would visit again and hopefully a lot myself more time for spelunking adventures.

I think what struck me the most about this visit was the formations in the caves that we were able to access.  There were so many interesting things that you could touch and interact with.  It is easily a place that you could spend an entire day adventuring if you should wish to.

I have included a trail map that can be obtained from the link above for convince as well as some photographs from my visit.

Thank you for readying and as always; Happy Trails!!
